When I first began working with youth innovators through Dream Tank, I was struck by their creativity and sense of purpose. They weren’t just dreaming of a better world—they were actively building it. From climate change solutions to social impact startups, these young leaders had ideas that could transform industries.

Yet, as I collaborated with organizations and HR leaders, one glaring issue kept surfacing: most workplaces weren’t ready for this next generation.

It’s not that businesses didn’t want to engage with Gen Z—they simply didn’t know how. Many reported challenges like “unmet expectations,” “high turnover,” and “disengagement.” In fact, 60% of HR leaders struggle to engage Gen Z employees, and 1 in 5 Gen Z hires leaves within three months.

This isn’t just a “young people” problem. By 2030, Gen Z will make up 30% of the global workforce. The companies that fail to adapt now risk falling behind. But the good news is this: with the right strategies, engaging Gen Z isn’t just possible—it’s transformative.

A Personal Turning Point

One of my most profound “aha” moments came during a Dream Tank project in which a group of teens tackled workforce challenges for a local nonprofit. They didn’t just meet expectations—they exceeded them, developing a creative strategy that the organization still uses today.

That’s when I realized: Gen Z doesn’t lack potential—they need better systems to unleash it.

Fast forward to now, and I’ve spent years helping organizations bridge the gap between Gen Z talent and traditional workplace systems. This work has led to the creation of the GenZ Ready Certification, an initiative to empower businesses to attract, retain, and inspire the next generation of employees.

The Gap Between Generations

The biggest challenge isn’t that Gen Z is disengaged—it’s that many workplaces don’t align with their core values. Gen Z craves purpose, collaboration, and innovation. They want to work for organizations that care about sustainability, equity, and long-term impact. When these values aren’t met, it’s no surprise that they leave.

But here’s the thing: meeting their expectations doesn’t mean abandoning your business goals—it means aligning them. When organizations do this, they don’t just retain employees—they unlock their creativity, passion, and potential.

That’s the focus of our upcoming webinar: GenZ Ready – Bridging Generations for Resilient Growth. It’s designed for corporate leaders and HR professionals who are ready to adapt their strategies to embrace Gen Z’s potential.
